I recently relocated to Los Angeles. It feels great to be back in California after spending 10 years away! Stay tuned for some LA themed work ;)
Saatchi Art recently featured me as their 'One to Watch' artist on their blog, Canvas. Click the photo below to read the interview!
My piece 1960s Dancing is featured in the 4th issue of Concordia's film magazine: Afterimages. Scroll down to read the write up about my drawing's connection to the film medium!
"Sophie Morro’s large scale wall drawing is inspired by 1960s dancing and music videos, notably Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Are Made For Walking. Layering found footage from a range of 60s video sources with her own dance imagery, Sophie creates a new take on the music and culture that often influences her work. Her use of charcoal lends a graphic, cinematic quality to the drawing through its high contrast application while the zig-zag of dancing figures evokes stills from an animation. The superimposed figures suggest movement and duration, further recalling the artist’s inspiration from the film medium."
Two weeks ago I was a part of Montreal's first ever Art Crush: a multi-disciplinary concert involving classical musicians, contemporary dancers and three visual artists. It was a fun night uniting different art forms and styles on stage in front of a live audience!
MTL Blog covered the event, providing some great shots below! Click here to read their blurb and see more photos!
